Biography

The heartwarming and inspiring tale of a courageous African-American woman who played an important role in the development of the city of Los Angeles, California. Biddy was born into slavery, successfully fought her master for her freedom through the court. Her hard work smart savings and investments made her the first African-American woman to own property in Los Angeles. Biddy founded First Episcopal Church in 1872. She spent the rest of her life helping others, regadless of the color of their skin.
